This pioneering intervention, developed by Jo Adams, that supports healthy relationships and healthy choices, giving young people the skills and confidence to know when they are ‘really ready’. We know levels of regret and non-use of contraception are considerably higher among young people who begin having sex before the age of 16 and this course aims to help young people make safer choices that are right for them.
- Provides participants with a toolbox of activities to use with young people in one-on-one and group settings
- Examines the causes and effects of early sex and current research findings
- Enables participants to talk to young people about relationships, sex and readiness with greater ease and confidence
- Helps participants gain skills to hand on to young people in how to say ‘no’ and resist pressure
This two day course is relevant for anyone offering support, services, education and advice to young people, including where professionals may have to discuss sex and relationships with young people, and this particular course will be focused on children in residential care.
RU Really Ready follows a national model developed by Jo Adams (formerly Director of the Centre for HIV & Sexual Health in Sheffield, author of ‘Go Girls!’), and will be delivered by Mary Beattie, a skilled trainer with over 14 years of experience.
Mary worked with a variety of young people in disadvantaged groups and has a background in public health and with Brook, an organisation that specialises in sexual health and well-being for the under 25s.
The training will really make a difference to our young people when implemented. It took us on a personal and professional journey that expanded our minds, always bringing us back to the learning and the purpose of the training.
This was amazing training and every staff member should do it. It not only helps to see how we help our students, but also ourselves.
