Smoking and Vaping Cessation

This training will provide staff with evidence-based knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on young people and demonstrate that their health outcomes are a top priority. Both managers and staff will have the opportunity to review and reflect on their policies, organisational strategies, and performance related to smoking and vaping cessation.

The Course

Smoking and vaping rates among young people in care can be up to 23 times higher than those of their peers, while staff training and confidence to intervene remain limited. In 2023, 20.5% of children aged 11-17 had tried vaping, a significant increase from 15.8% in 2022 and 13.9% in 2020. This course aims to support the development of comprehensive strategies that promote adherence to smoke-free and vape-free policies within residential homes for looked-after young people, and empowering staff to intervene and connect our young people with the appropriate support pathways.
