Managing Allegations

While guidance requires regulated settings to follow safeguarding procedures when a child may have been harmed by a member of staff or volunteer, our research found a quarter did not offer managing allegations training and only a third had received personnel training.

This course will ensure residential children’s homes managers have the skills to prioritise the safety of children and young people, work within interagency procedures and guidance and properly support their staff through proportionate decision-making and a caring approach.

Meet Your Trainer

Annabel Timmins is an experienced safeguarding professional with a background in social work and child protection. She began her career as a social worker before moving into safeguarding, serving as a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for a large unitary authority. Recognising that sport can present unique contexts for abuse and harm — and that it has historically been less well-resourced than sectors such as education, social care and health — Annabel transitioned into safeguarding in sport, where she has worked for the past six years.

Until recently, she was Director for Safeguarding in Sport at LimeCulture, leading the development of training and safeguarding reviews. Her work has included leadership in the Safeguarding Case Management Programme (funded by Sport England), the Training and Development Framework for Safeguarding Leads in Sport (commissioned by UNICEF UK), and delivering the FIFA Guardians Programme. Annabel now works as a freelance safeguarding consultant and trainer, with a range of organisations across the sport sector to strengthen safeguarding systems, leadership, and culture.
